杰克曾经一度与动物有着某种无法说清的感应，于是利用自己的这种本事开了一家宠物心理咨询中心。自从见到富翁温沙先生的狗“幸运"之后，他早已失去的感应又重新回到他的身上。富翁过世了，遗嘱中他把自己所有的财产，都留给他的狗“幸运"，还有能够与狗友好相处的杰克，但是要他来大宅与狗同住。然而，富翁的三位侄儿、侄女，原本以为这回富翁叔叔过世，他们可以瓜分他的6400万遗产，没想到他们的希望完全落空，自私、贪婪的几个人不肯轻易放弃，他们雇用了私家侦探，目的要找出杰克不配做信托人的过失，以便让他们能够重新夺回遗产。另一方面，杰克原本就和“幸运"有着不可思议的沟通能力和默契的心理呼应，连他自己都不知道该如何自制，每当“幸运"激动的时候，杰克也变得和狗一样，疯狂地吵闹、撒欢，把一切都搞得一塌糊涂。过后他居然一无所知，更不知道对时刻寻找他的过失，正在暗中窥探他的一举一动的家伙们存有戒心。
